About Us

When Barney Kroger began donating loaves of bread to the poor each week in the early days of his business, Kroger’s long history of fighting hunger in the communities it serves was born.

More than 125 years later, the Kroger family of stores is still leading the fight to help local families struggling to put food on their tables.

For the past 30 years, Kroger’s family of stores has worked closely with Feeding America and its network of local food banks to bring food, funds and hands-on assistance to hunger relief efforts in the communities where our customers and associates live in work. Working side-by-side with more than 80 local food banks, we see first-hand how great the need is in the communities we share.

Knowing the issue of hunger is too big for one organization to solve, we partner with our customers, associates and vendor partners to do the most good.

Bringing Hope to the Table®, our annual cause-marketing program in stores, brings key supplier partners and customers into our efforts. Since its launch in 2006, the program has generated $18 million in funds and $7 million in food, all of which goes directly to food banks working in Kroger communities. These funds help food banks purchase new trucks, refrigeration equipment, computers and other resources critical to their mission.

Kroger’s ongoing commitment to ending hunger led to the creation of an innovative company-wide program that allows stores to donate nutritious perishable food directly to Feeding America food banks that have the capacity to safely handle and distribute fresh food. This Perishable Donations Partnership now happens in roughly 90% of our stores, with more being added each month.

Our more than 338,000 associates who serve customers in 31 states under two dozen local banner names - including Kroger, City Market, Dillons, Jay C, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry's, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs and Smith's – are key partners in the Kroger’s hunger relief efforts.

All of this adds up to meaningful help. In 2010, Kroger’s family of stores provided the equivalent of 125 million meals to assist our hungry neighbors.
